Bomb damage


Damage caused to the Wilkinson shelter on King Street, North Shields after a German bombing raid on May 3rd 1941. The basement of Wilkinson's lemonade factory was used as an air-raid shelter and when the building took a direct hit, all the machinery from the floors above crashed down through the building, 104 civilians were reported killed. Rescue workers and a policeman included.
