A collection of trade union badges belonging to Mr Frank Illingworth of Lowes Barn Bank, Secretary of the North East Federation of Trades Councils, October 1959. He had collected over 150 badges from all parts of the world. One of his oldest, dated 1870, belonged to the Amalgamated Association of Railway Servants. DA Box 386.

Durham Miners Gala, 24th July 1937 - the creche on The Racecourse, a welcome addition for the miners wives. This was the first time it had been introduced to the Gala. The idea for this was the brainchild of Mrs Hesther Alington, wife of the Dean. She and her friends made themselves responsible for the organisation, which was later taken over by the Mothers Union.
