Davy Safety Lamp
Brass hinged lid, brass bottom ring and bell-bottom shaped base. 4 off steel pillars surround the gauze, each pillar is 166 mm high. Simple brass davy lamp. Unbonnetted. "Bell Bottom" type. Screw lock on base. Round wick and burner. The top is supported by four iron rods. There is a wick trimmer in the base. Air is taken in through the gauze. Lid is fastened with flat headed thumb screw. Base is locked by side lock through brass lug on bottom ring, which locks into another groove in base.

Brass, fire and rescue helmet, embossed ' DNCFRB ' for Durham and Northumberland Collieries Fire and Rescue Brigade. Includes decorative crest with dragon motif, peak, neck guard and chin strap., , , , Chin strap and leatherwork require conservation. Made from brass and leather. Date c.1900. Used from about 1900 until 1920. It has been used locally and is well provenanced. It is in good condition. Associated place : Peases West Rescue Station, near Crook.

A HCP type lamp, with baffled bonnet, 4 pillars pneumatic lock ( missing spring pillar ) , 2 inner gauzes and electric ignition through the base. , , , , Missing internal ignition wire and makers badge. Made of brass and steel. Inscription :- Davis Derby " 91 ". Maker :- John Davis and Son, All saints Works,Derby in 1940s. It is in good condition. It was possibly used in Westerhope Colliery.

It is a brass plate with engraved capital letters filled in black enamel. , , , , It is fixed with 6 screwholes. Makers name at front bottom right. :- Van Der Velde and company 32, The Side. Made in Newcastle post 1947. 177 mm x 570 mm x 2 mm. It is in good condition.

A LAIDLER number 1 miners lamp. The lamp is a Marsaut type, with a steel bonnet and carrying handle, brass plaque, brass 5 pillar cage. It has a brass oil vessel and retaining ring., , , , The lamp has a hasp lock, wire wick adjuster and glass, but is missing a gauze. Stamped number ' 503 '. Made of brass, steel and glass. , , , , Maker :- James Laidler and Sons, number 1, Durham. It is in fair condition. Locally produced, no other example in the collection.

Secretaire Bookcase
Donors grandfather's. 1.790 M high x 350 mm deep x 760 mm wide. Plate on front reads :- ' Presented to E.M. Elliott by the Workmen and Deputies of the Harben Seam Dean & Chapter Colliery 1910 '. Actually Mr Elliot only had one ' t ' in his name, but was spelt wrong on the plate. Also see ' General Heading ' for copy of record, and photograph.
