Londonderry wagon article
Article which appeared in the Sunderland Echo 28th August 1974 relating to Londonderry steam wagons which were built at Seaham Harbour Engine Works. The one pictured was one of the first mechanical road delivery vehilces used by the North Eastern Railway for the delivery of goods in York District. It had front oil lamps, external wood brake blocks and a speed of 5 mph. It was first placed in service in July 1905, and the following year, six similar wagons were built at a cost of £500 each, four were still running in 1916.

Lighthouse alternator
An electric alternator for a lighthouse made by Buckett Bros of London. This is one of four machines installed in 1872 at South Foreland Lighthouse, near Dover, to generate alternating current electricity for its arc lamps. This followed the success of the same system - installed in 1870 - at Souter Lighthouse near Whitburn. These were among the first lighthouses to be lit reliably by electricity. (Series 97520-97521)
