Illustration entitled 'Strength stands the test', taken at Brunswick Methodist Church, Newcastle upon Tyne after an Industrial Service - hymns were played by Harton and Westoe Collieries Band. Mr Tom Harrison of the Postal Workers Union and Mr Derrick Scott of Westoe Colliery are standing beside the banner. Banner originally belonged to Fenhall Drift Lodge (Lanchester), was then acquired by Thislington Lodge and their name painted over, and was then acquired by Harton and Westoe and overpainted again.

Haswell Lodge banner
Front of DMA Haswell Lodge banner. Illustration entitled 'They being dead yet speaketh', depicting Tommy Ramsey, Alex MacDonald and W Crawford. This lodge was in the Pitmen's Union in 1831. The pit closed in 1895. Banner dates from 1893. At the 1989 Durham Miners' Annual Gala the banner was given to Durham Cathedral to be hung there on permanent loan.
