Patterson Safety Lamp :- West Stanley Disaster
Also see 1989-400.2. They previously belonged to Allan and Henry Miller, father and son, both killed in the West Stanley Disaster of 1909 . The lamps were brought out afterwards. Heat lamp given to James Drennan Potter in 1961 by the NHS to treat various problems he suffered from caused by a lumber puncture given during World War II with a dirty needle. The lamp is in its original box, with the instructions. It was manufactured by Philips in Holland. It uses infared rays to heal various injuries and ailments. , , Donor's parents were James Drennan Potter, died 1963, Corporal in the Royal Air Force and Hazel A.B.Potter nee Blake, died 2007. Not a Coal Mining lamp. A flame safety lamp, used for the inspection of sewers, drains and ships holds etc.. Made by :- J.H. Naylor Limited of Wigan with aluminium bonnet, brass cage, 5 brass pillars and brass oil vessel. , , , , The lamp has two internal gauzes, brass rretaining ring, glass and a form of bifold burner. Inscription Naylor, Wigan 1805 and stamped 175. Made in about 1950 - 1960. It was collected to demonstrate other applications of safety lamps. It is in good condition.
