Hayspade quilt, 1920, Thornaby. White cotton on both sides, quilted overall hayspade pattern, an unusual design so named because the quilter Mrs A Ireland used a hayspade as a template. Diamond infill. Cat No 16. Size 2.34 x 2.11m.

Plain gold quilt, 1939, Chester le Street. Gold sateen on both sides. Very finely quilted with central rose enclosed by circle, with elaborate design of leaves, flowers and feathers radiating from centre. Made by Mrs Mary Potts, a widow and well-known quilter who earned her living by quilting in Chester le Street. Cat no19. Size 2.34 x 2.13m.

Old Joe's quilt
Old Joe's quilt, c1820, Humshaugh. White cotton on both sides. Very finely quilted with central star enclosed in circle. Outer twist border, inner zigzag and fan border. Diamond infill. Only two thirds of this quilt survives. The quilt was ordered and bought direct from Joe the Quilter by the English family who owned Humshaugh Mill. Cat no 30. Size 2.51 x 1.65m

Chintz basket quilt, c1815, Haydon Bridge. Chintzes with reverse of white cotton. Medallion style. Central printed panel of basket of flowers in wreath, surrounded by alternate pieced windmills, and borders of chintz. Very likely made by Joe the Quilter of Warden. Cat no 121. Size 2.46 x 2.36m.
