Water crane
Remains of a water crane between Parkhead and Weatherhill on the Stanhope and Tyne line, 1968. It was erected in 1847 at a cost of £11 2s 6 1/2d. The crane pipe was wrapped with cork and then set in a stone column to protect it from the frost. It was fed from a small reservoir on the moors near Parkhead, on the line from Waskerley to Weatherhill incline top.
