Threshing
A Massey Harris harvester, 1948. The reel has been removed and the crop fed by hand onto the canvas conveyors. The crop is Coleseed (now called Rape), the oil produced was called rapeoil and used for lamps on the railways. There were no electrics or hydraulics, so the cutter head was raised with the wheel by the drivers feet. Driver is Wilf Ling of Easingwold. The engine was a Chrysler lorry petrol engine, slung underneath, where it gathered chaff and so often caught fire. The fire extinguisher laid handy by the drivers feet. Level horse
Will Dawson and Haggs Level horse called `Robin', this horse was killed when going down a steep part in the mine at Nentsberry. The trace chains caught on an air pipe and the tubs ran over it. Note candle lamp round horse's neck.
