"The Pit House Express"
Pen and ink sketch entitled "The Pit House Express" by Rev E B Lynn, 1984 depicting miners boarding a train to the pit. Size 190 x 265mm. Artists description "Brandon Colliery - in 1931, I think - the shaft was sunk and the buildings were erected at the top of Brandon Hill, about two miles west of Brandon. It was powered by electricity: railway lines serviced this Pit House Colliery, where goods trains and passenger trains ran, from Sunderland, up the Wear Valley to Bishop Auckland and beyond.
