Member s of Boldon Colliery Labour Party Women's Section who took part in a mass demonstration at Shadows Hill on the 15th August 1937 near Wrekenton in protest at the imprisonment of some Hepworth Colliery miners for their Trade Union Activities. Embossed memorial card in sacred the memory of the unfortunate miners (166 in number), killed in the Seaham Colliery Explosion, September 8th 1880. A piece of broken board about 2 feet long and 2 inches broad was found near the bodies, upon which was written in chalk on one side "J Riley, J McGlochlan, J Fletcher, J Drainer" on the other side was "Five o'clock, we have been praying to God". Size 78 x 115mm. Taken from album of 165 card.
