He was born on 1st August 1584 and married Elizabeth daughter of John, 4th Earl of Rutland. He died on 30th May 1630 and left no male heirs and the House of Bolton became extinct. Connected with Langley Hall, near Langley Park.

The cart was painted by Harrison's Coach Builders, Sunderland Road, Durham City. In the background is the former Wood and Watson's 'Pop' factory (demolished and now part of St Giles Close).
