Bridge Hotel fire
The Bridge Hotel, North Road, Durham City which suffered a bad fire, which started in the bar at 3.30am on 27th December 1935. The fire was so intense that nearby homes were evacuated, fortunately no one was injured. The landlord was Mr Alexander Burr. The fire was attended by the City Brigade and the Houghton le Spring Collieries Fire and Rescue Brigade. DA Box 69.

Section of the crowd gathered in Durham Market Place to hear the Mayor Cllr Gray read the proclamation of King Edward VIII, 23rd January 1936. Many hundreds of citizens and children from the city schools assembled to sing the national anthem and to take part in the historic ceremony. DA Box 72.

The Northern Counties Amateur Brass Band Association contest taking place in Durham Market Place. The contest drew bands from all parts of the county, 1st February 1936. Lumley Colliery won two trophies. DA Box 73.
