The parade had started in Waddington Street and travelled through the Market Place where Lord Londonderry, Lord Lieutenant of the County took the salute and finally ended in Old Elvet. It was hoped that the target of 210,000 would be raised for the city and rural districts to be able to qualify for the 'adoption' of HMS Witherington. DA Box 430.

Mobile canteens
Two mobile canteens, which were handed over to the Northern Regional Fire Service by the British Legion of County Durham, 30th May 1942. They had been purchased by voluntary subscription from men and women of the Legion. Mr J J Lawson MP received them on behalf of Sir Arthur Lambert, Regional Commissioner to be used by the National Fire Service No 1 Northern Region. The Mayor was Cllr H L Gradon. DA Box 438.

Durham City Corporation held a party in the Indoor Market for 500 old people as part of the Victory Celebrations. The Mayor Cllr J L Robson, seen on the right, welcomed them all. Tea was followed by entertainment in the Town Hall, 27th June 1946. DA Box 3.
