Frank Keegan's grave
Poor view of Frank Keegan's grave in France. He was one of the rescuers at the Stanley Burns Pit Disaster of 1909. Private F Keegan 25272, 11th Battalion Durham Light Infantry died on 1st September 1916 and is buried in Plot 1, Row B, Grave 2 in Dive Copse British Cemetery, Sailly-le-Sec. Sailly-le-Sec is a village about 22 kilometres east of Amiens, and just north of the River Somme. The cemetery is 2 kilometres north-east of the village on the eastern side of the road from Sailly-Laurette to Treux.

Thomas Henry Favell and others
Portrait of Thomas Henry Favell, who lived at Colliery Hotel, Pelton Fell, with two army comrades in uniform. (The tiled frontage of the Colliery Hotel is now in Beamish Collection 1995-37). 8131 Private Thomas Henry Favell was a volunteer in the 4th Volunteer Battalion DLI, this unit had its HQ in Durham (Gilesgate), E Company was based at Chester le Street. He is noted as having served in 4 VB DLI at least until 1906, he appeares to heve retired before 1908 when VB DLI beacme 8th Battalion DLI.
