Note Allendale House (centre right) which was built in 1908 and is still standing today - it was Holmes the bakers. Further down can be seen the Robin Hood and Queen's Head public houses.

Thomas Hewison
Portrait of Thomas Hewison, c1914, only son of Thomas and Mary Hewison, born 20 November 1895 in Pelton. Enlisted age 19 in the Durham Light Infantry (Territorial Force) in November 1914. Killed in Battle of the Somme at the Butte de Warlencourt on the 5 November 1916 whist serving with the 8th Batt DLI. reported missing in action, his body was never recovered.
