Mr Harry Spraggon, station master at Sherburn House Station, c1927. He had worked at this station for 54 years. He began his service in 1874 as a telegraph boy. His father had been station master before him. Together they rendered 106 years service at this station. Note good detail of station lamp and LNER notice board.

Decorated horse and cart owned by William Hockin, oil and egg merchant from Surprise Cottage, Sherburn Road, Durham City, c1910. This was an entrant in the Durham City Horse Parade, taken outside the Barracks (Vane Tempest Hall). The trade constituted an odd combination - the oil would be lamp oil.
