Oil Lamp
18th century. Brass table lamp, Dutch type. weighted base with tall stem holding burner. Recatalogued, previous number not known. Brass table lamp with conical, weighted base; tall stem; cup at top holding small cylindrical reservoir with long spout., , , , The resevoir lifts out for filling, and has a domed and knobbed lid. There is also a small holed and decoratively shaped backplate to the unit, for suspension or carrying. All components are soldered.

Brand hand lamp of tinned metal. Cylindrical container with bracket handle and stamped with details of trademark, guarantee. Late 19th century. Burner unit cone shaped with circular section wick pipe that has a small cap on a chain container contains fibre stuffing - wick dropped into this and and kept straight by surrounding wires. French 'PIGEON' make. See notes.

A brass Davy lamp with 3 steel pillars and inverted screw lock, a Laidler lamp of tin can pattern, however unusually this lamp does not have a maker's stamp. Within an open top steel can with central glass (cracked), 3 soldered bars and supplier's plate., , , , The internal Davy lamp was compared with Spec., 1988-340, a stamped Laidler lamp of the same pattern. The two are almost identical, confirming that 2007-143 is a Laidler lamp, although not stamped as such. , , , , The external screw lock on the tin can also appears to be a Laidler component, probably confirming that the tin can was ma...

An incomplete carbide lamp, missing feflector, burner, carrying handle and drip feed adjuster. Makers badge with owl logo is present at the bottom rear of lamp carbide container. Maker :- The Premier Lamp and Engineering Company Limited Leeds., , , , It is in poor condition, and will be used in the lamp cabin project. It is made of steel and brass.

A HCP type lamp, with baffled bonnet, 4 pillars pneumatic lock ( missing spring pillar ) , 2 inner gauzes and electric ignition through the base. , , , , Missing internal ignition wire and makers badge. Made of brass and steel. Inscription :- Davis Derby " 91 ". Maker :- John Davis and Son, All saints Works,Derby in 1940s. It is in good condition. It was possibly used in Westerhope Colliery.

It has a brass oil vessel and retaining ring., , , , The lamp has a hasp lock, wire wick adjuster and glass, but is missing a gauze. Stamped number ' 503 '. Made of brass, steel and glass. , , , , Maker :- James Laidler and Sons, number 1, Durham. It is in fair condition. Locally produced, no other example in the collection.

Type B1 safety lamp. Picture taken in the condition it arrived. The bonnet has a zink tag soldered to it's top surface, stamped number 108. Base of lamp is a replacement, stamped 186 on the exterior surface. , , , , Internally, the base is stamped number 70, presumably by the manufacturer. Materials : Brass / iron. Made by Patterson and Company, Newcastle upon Tyne c.1913. Associated Place : East Tanfield Colliery. Made and used locally.
