Lourdes Pilgrimage
Alderman and Mrs Wilf Edge with their grandson Kenneth on his way to his first pilgrimage to Lourdes, 31st July 1958. The Bishop of Hexham and Newcastle the Rt Rev James Cunningham greeted 100 pilgrims from the Durham area when they boarded the train at Durham Station to join the diocese pilgrimage of around 900. Army recruiting
Major James Mulhall, centre, from the Durham City Company, 8th Batt DLI, 5th October 1958. He is seen with some of his men travelling arounf the neighbouring villages on a Sunday morning in an effort to swell the ranks. The invitation to a free drink and a 'bit crack' was hoped to reward the Major with a few new recruits. DA Box 267.

Children from Nevilles Cross High School and Durham Commercial College who presented teh carol play "Nowell" at St Cuthberts Church, North Road, 19th December 1958. The play was an adaptation from the Coventry and Wakefield Mystery plays. Motor vehicle
Peter Tones, aged 16, a Durham Johnston schoolboy, pictured on his parents smallholding near Bearpark, March 1959. His runabout, named Wells Fargo (a modified 1930s Austin Seven car, reg CXW 481)), was used to tour the farm. DA Box 310.
