Type 7RMBS miners lamp made by Wolf Safety Lamp Co (Wm Maurice) of Sheffield, 1950s.

Tall lamp, steel bonnet, brass middle, 5 brass pillars. Re-lighting mechanism through base which works a rathcet type flint lighter within the glass. Wick is adjusted by thumb-screw through the base. Sliding air shut-off rings fitted to top and bottom sections. Has brass plate on top marked "16". Designed to be a top air feed, re-lighter lamp, to burn spirit.

Donald's Patent Miners lamp made by John Mills of Newcastle upon Tyne. Made between 1886 and 1894. James Donald was principal lamp maker for 35 successive years to John Mills. Bonnet is stamped "Guy's Shield Protected".

Stamped 3. Has five brass pillars one of which is sliding. When base is screwed up, the sliding pillar locks bonnet in place, the base can then be loscked with spring loaded magnetic pin.

Brass corrugated bonnet, brass middlering and steel base. Brass plate on base marked "The Premier Lamp and Engineering Co Ltd, Leeds", plus registered trademark of owl with lamp. Ignition is by sparker which is worked by finger screw/wire through base onto flint lighter. Wick is adjusted by geared screw which moveds brass ferrule up/down wick tube. Height 250mm, weight 1.4kg.

Miners lamp - Naylor Spiralarm Type M made by J H Naylor Ltd of Wigan. The lamp is designed to be hanging up in the place of work and not carried around the mine. Aluminium bonnet marked 'For the detection of Firedamp' (this alarm is designed to give warning of the presence of not more than 1 1/4 - 2 1/2 % of firedamp. Bonnet is stamped 84. Year of manufacture c1949.
