Inspection Safety Lamp
Not a Coal Mining lamp. A flame safety lamp, used for the inspection of sewers, drains and ships holds etc.. Made by :- J.H. Naylor Limited of Wigan with aluminium bonnet, brass cage, 5 brass pillars and brass oil vessel. , , , , The lamp has two internal gauzes, brass rretaining ring, glass and a form of bifold burner. Inscription Naylor, Wigan 1805 and stamped 175. Made in about 1950 - 1960. It was collected to demonstrate other applications of safety lamps. It is in good condition.

National Union of Mineworkers Banner. One side shows Conishead Priory, other shows " Emacipation of Labour ". Date circa 1950. Has no neg numbers. Conserved by Lincolnshire College of Art, Oct 1983 until July 1984., , , , It was Bradley Drift banner, near Consett. New information from Redhills is that the lodge for Bradley Drift was either Medomsley, Eden, or Crookhall. 2.655 m x 2.440 m. Re- rolled 01/2006. To be re-rolled again 01/2011. The banner box is stored vertically at the far end of O11 rack in the RRC.

Flint / Steel Mill
Mill used in the mines to show light by means of a shower of sparks from a flint. Framework in heavy brass. A metal handle turns a brass cog wheel, 12 cms diameter, which drives another gear, 3 cms diameter. This turns a steel wheel, 10 cms in diameter, against which the flint is held. Slot at one end for a strap fastening to body. Stamped " A Brown & Co, Middlesbro ". See notes

Cased in box. Banner in blue silk with red & blue fringing, rolled on thick piece of wood. Durham Miners Association banner with three portraits, J. Herriotts, A. J. Cook, & J. Keir Hardy on one side & the parable of the faggots on the other, which reads :- " Unity is Strength". One black rosette on front side.

Donors grandfather's. 1.790 M high x 350 mm deep x 760 mm wide. Plate on front reads :- ' Presented to E.M. Elliott by the Workmen and Deputies of the Harben Seam Dean & Chapter Colliery 1910 '. Actually Mr Elliot only had one ' t ' in his name, but was spelt wrong on the plate. X ref ' Coal Mining '.

Farrier's Box
This item was found in store by Chris Scott in August 2005. It was passed to Alan Grimes who re-numbered it.420 mmlong x 280 mm wide x 260 mm high to the top of the looped metal handle. This was added to the coal mining section, but may not have come from a mine, hence the cross reference. See ' Coal Mining ' for digital photograph. X ref Coal Mining.
