Eliza Brown
Eliza Brown (nee Jameson), born in Howden le Wear, Crook on 1st of March 1898. She was the youngest of 13 children. Her parents were Emma and Michael Henry Jameson. He was a miner at Annfield Plain. Eliza started work in a public house when she left school at 14. When the war started in 1914 she became a postwoman (see photo 35952) and held this job until 1918. She married George Brown a few month later and lived in Stanley. Her husband was a miner and member of the Mines Rescue Team. During the 2nd World War he was a member of the Home Guard.
