Billy Moss a miner at Roddymoor Colliery - known by nickname 'Elmo' due to his strength, 1930s. (b1911, d1999) Worked at White Lea Colliery, Roddymoor Colliery, The Harvey, Grahamsley, Crook. Worked from age 15 to 52 years at pits. When pit closed in 1963 went to work at Brancepeth Coke Works then later Fishburn Coke Works. Retired at 65.

The closure of White Lea Drift, near Roddymoor, Crook, 1963. Maurice Layburn (r) and Abe Fletcher (head horse keeper) with ponies at the drift mouth. The ponies were moved to other local pits. Maurice Layburn (b1911, d1977 aged 66) was ropeman topgrade and rolleywayman (looked after tracks)
