Heavy plain bedcover
Heavy plain bedcover quilt made by Mrs Katherine Tubridy (donors mother) (nee Hayes) (b1887,d1970) made at a farm, Moyasta, Kilrosh, County Clare, Southern Ireland in 1930s. Made on a frame which was placed in a bedroom on the farm and worked by Mrs Tubridy's sisters and friend, made using her own dyes, one particular dye made from heather. Mrs Wilcox (donor) recalls that at least four quilts were made, one for her and the rest for her sisters. The wool was from the farm, was white / grey in colour and then dyed. She came from a mining family - they all made quilts for the family and used to take part in the Women's Bright Hour at West Pelton Methodist Chapel. Quilt - top of yellow, turkey red & white cotton, reverse of turkey red cotton. Central star of yellow surrounded by sunburst pattern of alternate red and yellow lozenges on a white background.
