Mr C F Grey MP, being held shoulder high after his election, seen with his supporters outside Durham Town Hall, 24th February 1950. Mr Grey entered Parliament in 1945 as member for the division. He was born in 1904 and worked for more than 20 years as a coal hewer at Elemore Colliery, he was a native of Easington Lane where he attended the local elementary school. Mr Grey was a miners lodge official before 1945 and an Independent Methodist preacher. DA Box 286.

Ploughing competition winner
Durham County Federation of Young Farmers ploughing champion, Alan Kingston, son of Cllr J Kingston of Hallgarth Farm, Elvet, 13th January 1951. Alan had won the 21-24 year old contest at a ploughing match held at Mount Huley Farm, Ferryhill. This was the 2nd annual event - he had been successful in other contests all over the country an was about to compete in Ireland. DA Box 387.
