Police outside Newport Farm, nicknamed “Candy Hall”, where the “Candymen” were stationed. Every morning the Candymen walked down into Silksworth surrounded by a group of Policemen.

Fire Damage
The old Town Hall of Consett burnt down on 4th May 1906. The Police Sgt. is Mr Carruthers and the gentleman in the bowler is Jimmy Daly (Daly's Hall) - provision merchant. The fire started in "Old Town's" shop on the left. After the fire the second storey was taken over by Jimmy Daly.
