Assembling pump

Assembling pumping engine. Easington Coal Co Ltd, Easington Colliery (reg. 5/1/1899; latterly a subsidiary of Weardale Steel, Coal & Coke Co Ltd.) P14 - This colliery (Map 85, NZ 438442) was begun in 1901, but was not opened until 1910 because of difficulties with the sinking. It was originally to be linked to Seaham harbour Docks by a branch of Londonderry Railway (see Marquis of Londonderry), but eventually it was served by sidings E of LNER Seaham-West Hartlepool line 4m S of Seaham Station. It was vested in NCB Northern Division No. 3 Area on 1st January 1947. Donor Unknown.
