Engine House

The Bank Top Engine on the railway between Burnhope Colliery and Craghead Colliery. This engine comprised a vertical cylinder engine builit by Thomas Murray of Chester le Street about 1844 and a single cylinder horizontal engine driving on the same crank. This view is taken from the horizontal cylinder end, c1948. An engineman was killed in 1921 when he fell on the rope.(Copies of originals held in the George Watkins Collections, National Monuments Record Centre, Swindon.)
