The area to the East of the City was once a huge industrial area and housed thousands of workers who earned their living at the shipyards, on the quayside and around the Ouseburn Industrial area.
The 1960s saw the beginnings of a regeneration for the area, with hundreds of cramped and dilapidated houses and flats being demolished and replaced with new accommodation.
Residents Eastbourne Court in Walker and Tom Collins House in Byker, part of Your Homes Newcastle Housing Scheme, have been sharing their memories of the East End of Newcastle. Photographs from our archive, as well as some of their personal photos, have brought back many memories for the group.
Many of the residents have lived in this part of the City all their lives and have seen the transformation of the area over their lifetimes.
