The Berriman chip cart was a common sight on the streets of Spennymoor and could frequently be found on Thomas Street near to the Waterloo pub until 1972 when Beamish Museum collected the well loved vehicle.

The Berriman Chip Cart was made famous after it featured in a painting by renowned Spennymoor artist Norman Cornish. The van has been restored to its former glory and can now be seen at Beamish alongside the fish and chip shop in the Pit Village.
