Police arrest
Amos being arrested by Inspector Hutchinson. Amos appeared before the magistrates and was remanded to Newcastle gaol. The trial commenced on 2nd July 1913 and he was found guilty of wilful murder and sentenced to death. Amos was executed at 8am on 23rd July 1913 at Newcastle gaol.

Back row: Thomas Storey (father), Harry Storey (son), Neil Street (joiner), James 'Jim' Storey; front row: unknown boy, William Dover (joiner). Firm also built Century Terrace, Catchgate. Loaners father was James Storey (on right), his mother was Mary Alice Macdonald, a Catholic, who married James a Protestant, her father was the first Catholic police sergeant in Annfield Plain.

Gardening group
Group in garden at either Pelton or Ouston, c1900. Ann Heel nee Reay is second from left with her daughter Margaret to her right, next is Alex a retired policeman who lodged with her, other daughter Isabella on right. Lady on left is thought to be a cousin. Ann's husband Michael was a miner who died at the age of 34 of complications as a result of an accident in the mines. Ann's eldest daughter Jane Ann was in service at this time. Ann was born in 1866 and died in 1933, Michael die in 1897. Ann was also the grandmother of Isobel Slater.

Police inspector, Thomas Macdonald in is trap being pulled by his horse 'Paddy'. Paddy was called up during the 1914-18 war and killed. Inspector Macdonald was a Roman Catholic and served with the army before joining the police force.

Portrait of a Police Sergeant in the Durham Constabulary, c1955. Mr John Hislop (b 2/5/1901, d 14/2/1990) outisde door of his home at 3 Mowden Terrace, Darlington. He served for 30 years in the police force and the final phase of his police career wasas a sergeant based in Darlington at the old police station at the corner of North Road and Chestnut Street.
