Saddle Blanket
Mounted Police equipment. Horse saddle blanket, also known as a shabraque. Swallowtail design. Faced with black wool, with yellow and purple trim. Lined on the underside with black canvas type material. In the corner of each tail is the badge of Durham Constabulary, consisting of an eight point Brunswick Star surmounted by a Queen's Crown. In the centre is the Coat-of-Arms of County Durham with the words " Durham Constabulary " surrounding it. Made of white metal, on leather backing.

Light attached to a leather pouch. Pouch used to house the battery for the light. Light cover is in two colours. Top half white or clear, bottom half red. Small metal switch beside light. Used by Mounted Police on horse ankles.

Pair of snowshoes. Oval wood frame with a latticework of thick twine inside. Running down the middle of the shoe is a rectangular strip of canvas for placing the foot on. To secure the foot to the shoe, there are canvas webbing straps with open face crimp buckles to tighten them. Worn by Police Officers in the winter.

Durham County Constabulary c.1931. Black peaked officer's cap 1920 pattern. Cap badge is the officer's 1902 issue, consisting of a white metal seven point star surmounted by a King's Crown. In the centre is the Durham Coat of Arms, surrounded by a circle bearing the words " Durham County Constabulary ". Black braid on peak denotes rank of Superintendent. Stamped on inside of headband with " D.C.C. 1931 ".

The silver braid on the peak denotes the rank of Chief Superintendent or Superintendent.

Cap badge is 1870 issue, consisting of the Durham Coat of Arms surrounded by the words " County Constabulary ". The kepi was introduced in the late1870's in a different form, and replaced by the peaked cap in 1920.

Durham County Constabulary c.1931. Black peaked cap. Cap badge is the 1870 issue, consisting of the Durham Coat of Arms surrounded by the words " County Constabulary ". The peaked cap was introduced in 1920, replacing the helmet for general police duties. The cap badge was changed in 1935. This cap belonged to P.C. J. Davison 306. Interior hat brim is stamped with the initials " D.C.C. 1931 ".
