Tyne Harbour entrance

Portrait of PC Tom Grey who came to Ovingham 1919 and retired at Ovingham c1928 and moved into the house attached to the stables of the Bridge End Inn, c1919.

PC Harry Rutherford (who followed PC Grey) with Miss Mary Davison (toll keeper at Ovingham Bridge), beside toll cottage. PC Rutherford retired in 1930's and went to live at Berwick upon Tweed of which he was a Freeman.

Policeman
Portrait of PC Edward J Russell, No 216 of the Northumberland Constabulary in summer uniform in 1902. He was later Inspector at Haltwhistle, then Prudhoe and then Newburn. He was the Inspector in charge at the Otterburn Murder and one of the last police Weights and Measures Inspectors. He retired in 1934 and died at Heddon on the Wall aged 76 in 1956. He was a native of Howick, Northumberland.
