Motorcycle and sidecar
Mr Tom Elder sitting on a 1962 Panther 600 motorcycle with 4-sidecar. The sidecar was built from a bomber drop tank with a screen from a Halifax bomber sitting on an old GPO sidecar chassis. The total width of the vehicle was 6'6". The outfit was quite spectacular and drew a lot of attention when parked. On the whole the outfit gave the Elder family a lot of pleasure and was driven all over the South of England. The SNAG was its enormous width which called for so much "toe in" on the sidecar wheel that Tom could screw the thread off a Dunlop tyre on the bikes back wheel in 500 miles.

The main reason for this choice of feedstock was because the nation wide conversion from 'town gas' to 'natural gas' had reached Tyneside.
