Locomotive Crane
E1 locomotive steam crane at Consett Iron Works.Designed by John P Row CE, a Consett Works engineer, it was one of two built by Black Hawthorn & Co of Gateshead. They could lift 12 tons and had a radius of 16ft. Weight 55 tons. There were other E types Nos 3 & 4 built for the works which could lift 7 tons with a radius of 15ft and Nos 5, 6 & 7 with same lift weight and radius as 3 & 4 but with a longer jib making it possible for them to increase radius to 20ft but lower the weight lifted to 5 tons.
