Blaydon, Gateshead and Hebburn Railway Company

Seaham Harbour Engine manufactured in 1828 by Messrs. Crawshay of Gateshead. Originally the property of the Seaham Harbour Dock Co., it was used at the North Dock entrance at Seaham Harbour to pump out the Docks to supply power to 3 cranes for unloading ships, and to raise and lower the storm booms which protected the gates in bad weather. It was dismantled in 1949.

Seaham engine at the harbour entrance. Manufactured by Messrs. Crawshay of Gateshead in 1829. Originally installed under the Marquis of Londonderry (later the Seaham Dock Co formed 1898). It was used at the North Dock entrance to Seaham Harbour to pump out the docks, to supply power to three cranes for unloading ships, etc, to raise and lower storm booms which protected the gates in bad weather.
