Sheep
Thomas Milburn of Moss House, Cowshill with sheep and child with lamb. Taken in 1875 by itinerant photographer from Bradford, W H Delan. Moss House was located south of the burn between Cowshill and Lanehead, opposite the unoccupied Travellers Rest public house. The sheep grazed on Moss Moor. Weardale sheep breeders described the sheep as old fashioned Scotch black face or 'Moor Sheep' as they were described in old show catalogues (a type rather than a recognised breed). At Wolsingham Show as late as 1919 there were classes for both types. It is possible that this type of sheep was brought dow...
