Order of Merit from the Chief Constable of Northumberland County Constabulary conferred on No 60 PC Alexander J Middleton for the good work done by him, during the early hours of Sunday 8th January 1939, when on finding two persons in the act of committing shopbreaking at Alnwick, he recognised both and arrested one on the spot and the other shortly afterwards.
