Plain floral quilt, 1886, Quebec, Co Durham. Pale printed floral cotton with reverse of scarlet cotton. Quilting in strips of twist, bellows and running diamond. Made by Mrs Harriet King (born 1866 in Suffolk) who moved to Quebec in 1886 with her husband to find work in the mines. All six daughters helped to sew the quilt . Cat No 18. Size 1972-358

Very finely quilted with central rose enclosed by circle, with elaborate design of leaves, flowers and feathers radiating from centre. Made by Mrs Mary Potts, a widow and well-known quilter who earned her living by quilting in Chester le Street. Cat no19. Size 2.34 x 2.13m.

Allenheads quilt, c1900, Haydon Bridge. Cream sateen on both sides. Very fine quilting with central rose and elaborate design of leaves, feathers and roses radiating from the centre. Outer border of hammock and rose. The freely drawn leaf and feather patterns are in the style of George Gardiner of Allenheads and this could well be the work of his pupil Elizabeth Sanderson. Cat no 20. Size 2.74 x 2.46.

Outer border of curled feathers and roses and elaborate corner design. This quilt is in the style of George Gardiner, probably the work of his pupil Elizabeth Sanderson. Blue pencil markings visible. The quilt design is very much influenced by the Allenheads style. It was made by Mrs Ellen Robson, a miner's widow, who brought up a family of nine children supplementing her income by quilting. Old Joe's quilt, c1820, Humshaugh. White cotton on both sides. Very finely quilted with central star enclosed in circle. Outer twist border, inner zigzag and fan border. Diamond infill. Only two thirds of this quilt survives. The quilt was ordered and bought direct from Joe the Quilter by the English family who owned Humshaugh Mill. Cat no 30. Size 2.51 x 1.65m
