First World Championship Boxing Match (no weights) John Carmel Heenan - the Benecia Boy v Tom Sayers, Champion of England, at Farnborough, April 1861. The fight was broken up by police (prize fighting was illegal) after 36 rounds. Heenan was blinded and Sayers had a broken arm. Fight declared a draw. Sayers never fought again.
